A brilliant politician full of nerve, Winston Churchill stands out as one of the pillars of the British parliament. But, at 65 years of age, his candidacy for Prime Minister seems unlikely. Regardless, he is nominated as a matter of urgency on the 10th of May 1940, after Neville Chamberlain announces his retirement, and in the dramatic context of the fall of neighbouring Allied countries to the Nazi Reich, as well as 200,000 British troops stranded in Dunkirk.

Whilst the possibility of a German invasion draws ever closer, Churchill is informed that his King, George VI, remains very sceptical of his ability to resolve this crisis. Churchill is then faced with a seemingly insurmountable dilemma: negotiate a peace treaty with Nazi Germany and spare the British people what appears to be a grim fate, or mobilise the country and fight till the bitter end.

With the support of Clementine, his wife of 31 years, he turns to the British public to find the strength to hold strong and fight to defend the ideals, the independence, and the freedom of his country. With his words as his sword, and his tireless secretary as his rock, Winston Churchill must write the speech to lift the nation and change the course of history.

A new logo, a new name and the poster 2018

A new logo and a new name for the Festival!

The Festival is getting a makeover for its 29th edition by changing his name and logo! The British Film Festival of Dinard becomes the “Dinard Film Festival”.

This new name will also allow more effective communication and has been used by the British press for many years: it will no longer need translation.

The poster 2018

The poster for this 29th edition was produced by Sylvain Garrigues. It gives pride of place to the seaside identity of Dinard, since it recognizes the Pointe du Moulinet and the Villa Saint-Germain, a true symbol of the architectural richness of the city. The “main character” of this visual has changed generation, style and temporality: after the tattooed grandmother and tea drinker in 2017, place a beautiful evanescent siren, blond hair and tail in the colors of the Union Jack. The mermaid, legendary creature, symbolizes here, beyond the marine side, the imagination, the fiction, the story, the scenario … The mystery surrounding his presence, his eyes that are not revealed, his crown of “queen” , this impression that it is out of time, are all elements calling everyone to invent his own legend…

The poster will be on sale at the price of 8 € from May 29 at the Bureau du Festival, 28 boulevard Féart – 35800 Dinard

Affiche 2017

Through those 28 years, the British Film Festival is proud to have showed different visual effects, coming directly from the artists’s imagination or creative illustrators.

After its hybrid and ambigious creatures of the 25th and 26th  editions, its -still- non identified character, hiding under a bearskin of the 27th edition, the festival returns to its fundamentals.

The character presented on the poster could come straight out of a British movie, as a new Maggie Smith or Judi Dench.

This elderly woman is carrying a tattoo and an offbeat jewel in order to show a certain degree of both modernity and rebellion, two main issues mentionned in many British movies, and more recently with Ken Loach and his I, Daniel Blake.

If this charming British lady is not smiling, don’t see in there any moody or bitter personality. It’s simply that you cannot mess with the Tea Time!

June 2016

A 27 year-old bond !

The festival team is proud to introduce the poster for the 27th edition of the British Film Festival of Dinard.

Every year, the unveiling of the poster marks the start of the countdown to the event itself.

With feet firmly planted in the sand, equipped with rubber boots – a must in Brittany according gossipers, and wearing a swimming costume with the same blue and white stripes as the famous beach tents of Dinard… a mysterious character is hiding beneath the very serious Bearskin, a part of the uniform of the British Foot Guards. Is the character about to leave a British beach? Or is he already on the beach in Dinard? Sylvain Garrigues, the creator of the poster, obviously chose humour as the main ingredient for his illustration of the 27th edition of the British Film Festival of Dinard. He mixed together emblems and symbols of our two countries to produce a sort of British-Breton biped that will take on a life of its own in and around the Festival this coming fall.

The 50x65cm poster will be available at the Festival office for 8€ starting in mid-June
